Local 238 Increases Member Training

Annual Stewards School

Last October, Local 238 stewards from around the state gathered at the main office in Cedar Rapids to participate in the annual Local 238 Steward School.  Around 130 stewards from both the public and private sectors came together to hone their skills in order to represent their coworkers.    The IBT’s Training and Development Department coordinated the program that focused on the rights and responsibilities of stewards.  Other topics included workers compensation issues, organizing and a political update.

Steward Training/Member Organizing Training

April 2010 was a busy month for member training at Local 238.  Members from dozens of industries met in Des Moines and Waverly to brush up on stewards’ rights and kick off a member organizing program.  The trainings touched on internal organizing as well as organizing working Iowan’s who want to be Teamster members.

The Iowa Teamsters Law Enforcement League also conducted a Law Enforcement Summit in Des Moines in April.
